Pantone has announced its 2025 Colour of the Year, an “evocative soft brown” called Mocha Mousse, marking over 25 years of this annual tradition. The colour is described as a gentle, comforting brown shade, offering warmth and sensory appeal. Pantone says the colour can inspire harmony and wellness while blending luxury and groundedness. 

In a garden setting, Mocha Mousse’s warm and grounding characteristics can inspire plant and design choices that evoke comfort and harmony. Think about plants with earthy tones, such as brown, bronze, or chocolate-coloured foliage, such as Cordyline Superstar, Cornus Nightfall, Cotinus Dusky Maiden, Ajuga Feathered Friends Fierce Falcon or Astilbe Dark Side of the Moon.

Surround these plants with bark mulch or natural stone in warm brown tones to echo the nurturing quality of Mocha Mousse. You can also incorporate mocha-coloured planters or ceramic pots. This colour inspires a welcoming, luxurious, naturally soothing landscape, reflecting nature's restorative qualities.

Thankfully, there’s a wide choice in plants with earthy tones. The recently introduced Echinacea Drumsticks Purple and Panicum Purple Breeze bring deep, muted purples that create a sense of richness and depth. At the same time, Persicaria Red Dragon showcases striking foliage with maroon and green hues that can act as a vivid focal point. These plants not only add aesthetic charm but are also reliable, resilient performers, making them perfect choices for creating a stunning, low-maintenance landscape.
