Fashion, interiors, cars - you name it, and it’ll be undergoing a reboot or remake. Vinyl versions and mid-century modern designs are popular amongst Millennials worldwide, and what was once old and boring is now hip and trending again. Throwbacks are the biggest trend each year, and this doesn’t just go for fashion and interiors: but for plants too.

Retro-looking dahlia for drama and colour

Plants that bring back memories aren’t just getting a pull from the Millennials, they’re incredibly interesting for the Baby Boomers as well: who have a range of productivity and lifestyles, especially gardening! A great moment to line up some varieties that bring back memories, such as the ever-popular retro-looking Dahlia. A plant that will bring back memories for the older generations and add a retro touch to the gardens of the younger generation. Spectacular-looking Dahlia, such as the Mystic series by renowned breeder Keith Hammett will surely add some drama and flair to garden designs or pots and planters on the balcony or terrace. The dramatic colours of the Dahlia Mystic series will undoubtedly attract the attention of all garden centre visitors.

Autumn-flowering Azalea

Another plant that can undoubtedly be seen as retro and adds dramatic colours to the landscape is the new Rhododendron Encore Moonstruck. The Encore-series is famous for its long flowering period and rebloom in autumn. They are often seen as the dream of any landscaper: offering ample choice in beautiful colours to make the wildest landscaping ideas a reality. These stunning evergreen azalea demand little maintenance and are quite easy to cultivate.

Varieties that remind of sunny holidays

But there are more memories to be made in the garden. The holiday season is over, and life is slowly returning to the regular routine. Though the desire might be subconscious, many consumers will let their eyes fall on plants that remind them of the good times had during the summer break. Magnolia, such as Pink Pyramid has a second flush of flowers during autumn, bringing the landscape back to springtime energy, and the world’s first dwarf Jacaranda, Jacaranda Bonsai Blue, will bring back memories of warm, Southern-European holidays in Portugal or Spain.

The best agapanthus in the market

An obvious must-have this season is the agapanthuses by De Wet Plant Breeders: the Everpanthus-series (which includes the new Everpanthus® Midnight Sky) and, of course, the award-winning Agapanthus BlackJack. These agapanthuses are the best in the market and will surprise gardeners worldwide with their spectacular performance. Each variety has dense inflorescences, more flower heads than usual and an extended flowering period with good rebloom. Providing over 60+ days of flowers each year! The ideal Agapanthus to grow in pots, climate-proof, heat and drought-tolerant, great for biodiversity and the ideal Mediterranean-looking variety that will bring back the greatest memories of sun-kissed holidays.
