But it is also an outstanding tree for small city streets and town gardens as the branches have the unique 45 degree angle from the main stem giving ‘Merlot Magic’ its slender, upright habit.

The young foliage of ‘Merlot Magic’ is strikingly glossy and has a deep, unique purple colour in spring. In summer, the 3-lobed foliage is glossy, bronzy-green changing to full green. The show ends in autumn when ‘Merlot Magic’ shows off its yellow-orange foliage turning orange-red. The wings of the seeds have also a unique orange-red colour.
