Adrian Stravers' Prunus laurocerasus Bonaparte® ('Flippi01'PBR), produced and co-owned by Stef Verwaaij at SV Tuinplanten, was awarded KVBC Gold on May 16. According to the jury, Bonaparte® has a “very beautiful and above all practical upright growth habit. The young shoots are a beautiful brown-orange, and the mature foliage is shiny, fresh green.”

The jury was particularly impressed by the unique features of Bonaparte®. Its fresher and more cheerful appearance, narrower growth habit, the pink-tinted flowers and the fruits all contribute to the promotion of biodiversity. The improved disease resistance and problem-free propagation and cultivation in pots and open ground also set it apart. In their conclusion, the jury found Bonaparte® to be an improvement on almost all criteria compared to the existing range.
