Plantipp is delighted to announce that Philadelphus Petite Perfume Pink (‘P1’) has been awarded RHS Plant of the Year 2025 at the Chelsea Flower Show. This historic recognition honours the exceptional work of Alan Postill, the breeder behind this remarkable variety, exhibited by Sparsholt College and supplied by Hillier Nurseries Ltd.
Petite Perfume Pink is the first truly pink-flowered Philadelphus to reach the market. Its deep pink buds open into beautifully scented blooms, with petals that soften to a pale pink on the outside and deepen to dark pink at the centre—offering visual richness and powerful fragrance. With a naturally compact habit (H x S: 150 x 150 cm), it thrives in full sun to light shade and requires very little pruning – just occasionally to maintain its shape and encourage even more blooms. Petite Perfume Pink is an ideal choice for various types of gardens and landscapes.
This recognition at Chelsea represents a major milestone for Alan Postill, whose expertise and dedication to horticultural excellence have brought a long-sought breakthrough to fruition. It also reflects the strength of collaboration between breeders, colleges, and growers in bringing innovative plants to a wider audience.
Adding to the success, another Plantipp-managed introduction, Hosta 'Silly String' PBR, was awarded a shared second place. With its fine, wavy, narrow foliage, blue spring hues and strong garden performance, it stood out as a bold and playful newcomer in the Hosta category.
Together, these wins highlight Plantipp’s ongoing commitment to bringing forward visionary breeding work and celebrating the people who make it possible.
