Alongside Groundbreaker® Blush and Groundbreaker® Greeny, we proudly welcome another special and revolutionary new Hydrangea paniculata to the range: Groundbreaker® Ruby. What makes this spectacular Hydrangea so unique is its compact, low growth habit and remarkably rich branching. The breeder has used genetics to create a plant that grows more in width than in height. Groundbreaker® Ruby has very fine foliage and grows up to a maximum height of 40 cm. A new era has begun in which paniculatas are not only beautiful shrubs but can also be used as ground covers.

This ground-covering Hydrangea blooms for about 100 days, from July to November. Thanks to its many branches, Ruby produces numerous flower panicles and displays a colour gradient throughout the blooming season, ranging from bright white to soft pink to deep pink. In autumn, all the flower panicles turn a deep pink. Its compact, low growth makes Groundbreaker® Ruby the ideal Hydrangea for pots on patios, balconies, terraces, or even as a centrepiece on a garden table. This size is naturally perfect for small gardens, borders, ground cover, and mass plantings in private or public green spaces.

How to care for Hydrangea Groundbreaker® Ruby:
Groundbreaker® Ruby grows to about 40 cm high and 70 cm wide, prefers full sun and well-drained soil. If pruned between November and April, you will be rewarded each summer with a spectacular sea of flowers. Hydrangea paniculata Groundbreaker® Ruby is hardy down to -30 ºC.
