Compact plants with impressive impact

Small spaces continue to demand and inspire big breeding breakthroughs, and several of this year's introductions demonstrate just how much ornamental value can be packed into a compact habit.

Agastache Beelicious Blue ('Agabl' PBR), submitted by Van Hemert & Co. and Vitroflora, offers masses of large, vivid blue flower spikes that attract bees and butterflies throughout the summer months. Its tidy growth habit makes it well suited to contemporary gardens, mixed borders, and patio containers.

The vibrant Anisodontea Carnival Lights® Candy Apple ('IB201-7' PBR) and Anisodontea Carnival Lights® Cotton Candy Pink ('IB 005-6' PBR), submitted by Stolk B.V., bring continuous colour and a long flowering season to containers
and garden beds. Their bright, cheerful blooms and compact growth make them versatile performers for both retail and landscape applications.

For gardeners seeking edible appeal, Ficus carica Fignomenal ('PT-DF-14' PBR), submitted by Hoogeveen Plants, combines compact growth with reliable fruit production. Ideal for patios and urban gardens, it brings Mediterranean character to even the smallest outdoor spaces.

Rosa Amirose® ('Korhulth 005' PBR), submitted by Kordes Jungpflanzen and Arie Bouman Kwekerij, offers exceptional flower power on a compact plant. Its abundant blooms, healthy growth, and long flowering period make it a valuable addition to gardens, terraces, and decorative containers.

Pollinator magnets and garden performers

Supporting biodiversity remains an important trend not only across the industry but also among home gardeners, and this year we feature several varieties that deliver strong ornamental value while attracting beneficial insects.

Two ornamental grasses bring movement and seasonal interest to the landscape. Pennisetum alopecuroides Neon Lights ('JOJO100' PBR), submitted by Vitroflora, delivers bright foliage colour and textural appeal throughout the growing season, while Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Tiny Twinkler' PBR, submitted by Fa. E. Hopmans and entered in the Visitor's Favourite competition, combines a compact habit with abundant flowering spikes that provide late-season interest.

Foliage, fragrance and distinctive character

Several introductions distinguish themselves through unusual foliage, fragrance, or unique garden character.

Hosta 'Silly String' PBR, submitted by Hoogeveen Plants, offers an eye-catching appearance with its narrow, twisted foliage, bringing texture and architectural interest to shaded gardens and containers.

Osmanthus heterophyllus Perfume Party ('PNOS01' PBR), submitted by Bart van Roessel Tuinplanten and Vromans Kwekerijen, combines a compact evergreen structure with highly fragrant flowers, creating year-round value for gardeners and landscapers alike.
